Data protection agreement between EU and USA
The EU has created a new legal basis for data transfers between the EU and the US, which allows German and French companies to transfer personal data to the US in a legally secure manner.
By decision of 10 July 2023, the European Commission decided that the changes made by the US to its national law now ensure an adequate level of protection – comparable to that of the EU – for personal data transferred within the new legal framework from the EU to US companies.
The list of US-based companies that comply with this new "data protection framework" will be published shortly by the US Department of Commerce. Transfers of personal data from the EU to companies on this list will then be free to take place without the need for additional safeguards.
